🠈 Cedar City, Utah 🠊
Cedar City, home of Southern Utah University, is a college town at the transition from the Great Basin to the Colorado Plateau.
One finds the rolling dry hills of the Great Basin to the West of town and alien scenery of Cedar Breaks and Kolob Canyon to the South and East. Cedar City is named for the juniper trees which grow in abundance in the area. (The pioneers had hoped the trees would be recognized a cedars, hence the misnomer.)
The 2010 census reported a population of 28,857 which has since grown to over 30,000. Cedar City is the largest town in Iron County.
Cedar City has an active art scene with an abundance of festivals hosted at SUU and in town and is known throughout the Mountain west as festival city.
