Home Depot

Home Depot is a leading retailer of hardware and building supplies. The company's headquarters are in Atlanta, Ga. In 2005, Hoovers reported that Home Depot had close to 1900 stores with 325,000 employees. Yahoo reports that, as of March 2014, they had over 2200 stores and 365,000 employes. Home Depot trades on the New York Stock Exchange with the symbol HD.

The founders of the company (Bernard Marcus and Arthur Blank) score high in the Forbes 400 list of wealthy Americans. In 2004, Marcus's took position 104 with $2.0 billion. Blank is in position 234 with a scant $1.2 billion. It was the purchase of the Atlanta Falcons that did him in.

During this last year, Home Depot showed an impressive 8.7% employee growth. I've heard many people praising Home Depot as an above average employer. I think it would be a hoot to work in hardware. I could see myself in an apron authoratively stating: "That thar, ma'am, is an eye bolt." The career page has informaton on how you can get in.

The Home Depot Foundation is the charitable arm of the company. As a leading player in the construction industry, Home Depot concentrates its charitable dollars on the creation of affordable housing and forest preservation and restoration (they sell a lot of wood).
